Introducing Super notes, Moments, and offline file access

December 2, 2022

We're excited to announce the release of some great new features for Standard Notes, the private and encrypted note-taking app. These features will help you create, organize, and view your notes more intuitively and allow you to create fine-grained and powerful organizational structures.

The first new feature is Super notes, which is a new way to edit notes. Use the / key to bring up the block selection menu, or the @ key to embed images or link other tags and notes. You can also type - then space to start a list, or [] then space to start a checklist. And if you want to add an image or file to your note, you can simply drag and drop it into the editor. You can enable Super from Labs.

Another new feature is Moments, which is available in Labs. Moments lets you capture candid photos of yourself throughout the day, right in the app. With Moments, you can create a visual record of your life, one photo at a time. Moments uses your webcam or mobile selfie-cam to take a photo of you every half hour, ensuring that you have a complete record of your day. And because all photos are end-to-end encrypted and stored in your private account, you can trust that your memories are safe and secure.

We've also added offline file access, so you can access your images and documents without an internet connection using the desktop app. To enable this, simply go to Preferences > Backups and enable File Backups. Once enabled, any time you view an image or file, it will be loaded blazingly fast from your computer instead of from a network request. This is especially useful if you need to access your notes on a plane or in a remote location.

Another new feature is the smart view creation wizard, which allows you to filter which notes are displayed based on logical filters you define. This makes it easy to find the notes you're looking for, whether you're looking for notes with a certain tag or notes that contain specific words. Simply press + next to Views to create your first smart view.

We've also added Daily Notebooks, which is a great way to keep a daily journal. A new note is created every day, so you can capture your thoughts and experiences as they happen. And if you want to highlight certain notes, you can star them and make them appear in a special "Starred" section, which means you don't have to clutter up your main feed with pinned notes.

We've also added the ability to set a custom icon or emoji on tags, which makes your notes and tags even more visually appealing and engaging. And if you want to favorite a tag, you can do so by right-clicking it, which will feature it more prominently in your list.

Another new feature is bidirectional note linking, which allows you to link notes to notes, files to notes, tags to files, and more. This makes it easy to create complex relationships between your data, and helps you organize your notes in a more intuitive way.

We've also added the ability to set the default title for new notes, which is especially useful if you want to specify a default title based on the current date and time.

If you're a Professional user, you can now share your subscription with 5 other accounts.

If you're a keyboard power-user, you'll be happy to know that we've added keyboard shortcuts for primary actions on web and desktop. Actions with a keyboard shortcut will display their respective shortcut command directly in the interface.

Finally, we're excited to announce a new, beautiful mobile app that matches our web and desktop experience one-to-one. One unified codebase allows us to ship more features faster and with higher quality.

We're excited to hear how you use these new features, and are always looking for feedback and suggestions on how to make Standard Notes even better.
